Monte & Movies
Down Hearted PRIVATE eye-turned movie producer Frank Monte has taken his battle with actress Lesley-Anne Down to court, suing her for $1 million for allegedly backing out of a film role just before shooting was to begin. In court papers filed in Los Angeles, Monte says Down agreed to be in his low-budget movie, "The Private Eye," but backed out when Aaron Spelling suddenly cast her in his soap, "Sunset Beach." As our colleague Neal Travis recently reported, Monte had been trying to avoid the courts by persuading Down to adhere to their contract, but was having no luck. The Screen Actors Guild has taken Down's side. But now that he's in court, Monte's also naming Spelling Television Inc. in the suit, claiming the company knew about this deal with Down and intentionally sabotaged it.
